ROUND ONE

GAME ONE (DEC.31.1999)
BOBBY D. VS REDROB

The first match up in the pits was Bobby D. vs. RedRob. This game will go down in history as the first CARTA sanctioned Winter Rocks event and it was a real doozie! The different surface conditions led to the competitors having to develop a completely different rock throwing style. Instead of being able to aim directly for the rings as in Summer Rocks, the competitors had to play a lay-up style of rocks where they hope to land short of the pit and roll, skip or raise into the ring. Otherwise, an errant rock with too much pepper on it would kerskipit off the ice and out of the ring. Hightlights of the first match include RedRob scoring the first Triple in the 4th end to come within one point of Bobby D. He then tied it in the 5th but Bobby D. put on jets and was leading by six points as they went into the 11th. RedRob then returned in the 11th with a 5 point end to come within one point of Bobby D. As they entered the 13th end Bobby D. led 13 to 12 and looked good for the win. However, RedRob surprised the crowd yet again with a blast to the stick for a 3 point knock-down plus shot rock to take the game 16-13.

FINAL SCORE
BOBBY D. - 13
REDROB - 16
13 ends.

GAME TWO
BOBBY D. VS REDROB

The second game in this round was filled with fast paced rock-play. The boys were really peppering it in there. As they entered the 13th end Bobby D. was taking it to RedRob 13-6 and this time Bobby was not about to lose it. He scored a big Deuce in the 13th to take the win.

FINAL SCORE
BOBBY D - 15
REDROB - 6
13 ends.

GAME THREE
BOBBY D VS REDROB

This game was settled quickly and handily. Going into the 11th end RedRob led the game 13-3 and scored a triple to advance to the 2nd round with a big celebration and congenial handshakes from both players.

FINAL SCORE
BOBBY D - 3
REDROB - 16
11 ends.

Thus ended the first day of competition as the competitors set aside their competitive attitudes and began to make preparations for the second day of competition. The rings were reinforced with ice and more glop was added to the sticks to anchor them down. Then the festivities for the New Year began. However, for reasons of confidentiality, certain legal issues and lack of memory this reported is not allowed to publish what exactly occurred that evening. All that can be said has been said and it is best to say that fun was had by all.
