The Y2K All-Star Rockin'Vitational

CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH a best 3 of 5 series

GAME THREE
REDROB VS JUNIOR

Entering the third game, the match was tied at 1 game a piece. Neither opponent was showing any weakness and, after a quick beer break, the two were ready to continue the match. The snow had still not let up and had even changed direction slightly so that it was coming more from the players' sides. Junior started the scoring in the first end with a single and RedRob a double in the second. Junior answered with his double in the third as if calling RedRob in a poker match. So, in true high tension-poker form RedRob raised the stakes with a big triple in the fourth to lead 5-3. In the 7th end with RedRob leading Junior 7-3 disaster struck for Junior. As he was cleaning the build up of snow and ice on one of his "Skipper" rocks it fractured and Junior was forced to make a decision whether to make the substitution or continue with the larger piece of rock left in his hand. In a ballsy move he elected at that point to keep the fractured rock and reserve his right to substitute it at a later time. The decision worked out for him as he stole a point in the 7th end to come within 3 points of RedRob. RedRob went on to score a deuce and a single to lead the game 10-4 going into the 10th. Here, Junior decided to retire the "Skipper" and go with his replacement rock the "Y2JR Bomber". With that replacement the "Bomber" Scored Junior a point to make the game 10-5 RedRob after 10. But that would be about it for Junior as RedRob would allow only one more point for Junior for his next five. With a double and a shout of joy Redrob took game Three 15-6 in yet another 14 end game.

FINAL SCORE
REDROB - 15
JUNIOR - 6
14 ends.

GAME FOUR
REDROB VS JUNIOR

Going into the fourth game RedRob led the Championship Match 2-1. It was still anybody's match, however, it was a must win situation for Junior. RedRob needed only one more win to be the CARTA Winter Rocks Year 2000 All-Star Rockin'Vitational Champion.
Junior started off the scoring and it was tied at one going into the third end when RedRob made a big hit to the stick and left one to count scoring a big four in the third end. At the end of the 8th end the score was 8-4 for RedRob and both players were playing well. Each of them was able to land at least two rocks in the rings each end. Junior with his crowd favourite hammer-rock, nicknamed "Warwalker", screamed "Warwalker" each time he threw it. RedRob seemed to favour his own hammer-rock, the "Krincher", unlike Junior, the area of McCarrell's Lake did not echo with the sound of his screams after each throw of the "Krincher".
RedRob held Junior to five points after 11 ends and was in the lead 11-5 as Junior scored a come-back double in the 12th the make the score 11-7. Then, in the 13th RedRob scored a close double after a measurement to bring the score to 13-7. The crowd was hushed with excitement. After all, the first three games only went 14 ends what about this one. In the 14th end RedRob lay 2, the amount needed to win the game when Junior skipped in his "Warwalker" to lie extremely close to the stick and take away the possible deuce. RedRob feeling glory went for the stick with his Krincher but narrowly missed. The score after 14 13-8 RedRob. As they entered the 15th end the tension in the air was thick and the two decided it best to have a quick beer before playing the 15th. Junior, ever the gentleman and perhaps a bit clairvoyant, gave passed the hammer to RedRob as they entered the 15th. Junior got his first in to lie one. RedRob got his first in to lie one. Junior put his second in but short. RedRob, lying one put his second in to lie two. Junior, his last rock, places in to take away one and leave RedRob with one and the hammer. The "Krincher" rolled from RedRob's hand very easily and gracefully. The arc of the rock perfect landing just in front of the pit. The roll... couldn't have been better if he pushed it himself. And up... to the stick for two points, the game, the match and the Championship!

FINAL SCORE
REDROB - 15
JUNIOR - 8
15 ends.
